So last night, I spent the evening with my Wife. We hung out & watched America’s Got Talent. We were hoping to see performances in the second round, but there weren’t any. At least we got to hang out though.

In other news, my Wife & I are trying to plan a day trip to Montreal. So far, the phone lines & website are jammed due to VIA Rail’s 60% sale offer. Last weekend, they went on Strike and this is their way of apologizing for it. The offer was extended until this Friday, so hopefully we can pull it off.

I’m heading to Walmart tomorrow afternoon, because frankly, my life just isn’t funny enough. I have to pick up some household items, and I’m cheap. The answer to that equation is to go to Walmart.

Tomorrow night, my Wife & I are heading out to the Busker Festival on the Sparks Street Mall. I usually have a pretty good time, if I get a good view. I usually try to find Performers who are setting up & I quickly nab a spot in the front. I keep hoping one of them will pick me from the crowd to help them, or at least be part of their show. If any of the Performers are reading this, I have a really big powered wheelchair & I can possibly be used to jump over, or hell, just bang on my table. I’m also a pretty fun guy & know how to get the crowd going. I can do stuff, trust me. I used to be a Stand-Up Comedian.

Use me!

It’s a pretty rainy day here in Ottawa, so it’s time for another childhood memory from when I was living in the Hospital.

Today, I’m gonna talk about the second time that I broke my leg.

I was on my way back to the Hospital after spending the day at the Jack Purchell Community Centre. We were just about to cross the Pretoria Bridge by the Rideau Canal. A Car cut us off, and the Driver had to slam on the brakes.

The Seat of my wheelchair fell forward. I hit the Driver on the back of his head with my face & then I crashed to the floor face first. The Woman that was with me started freaking out and screaming. The Ventilator Tube had come off, so I wasn’t breathing during the ordeal. Luckily, the Woman quickly realized and grabbed the Ambu Bag.

An Ambu-Bag is something that goes on my neck to help me breathe. Everytime someone squeezes it, it fills my lungs with air. Part of my Disability affect my lungs and I can’t breathe on my own. So yadda, yadda, yadda, the Ambu-Bag saved my life.

I laid there on the floor until the Ambulance came. I was moaning in pain. One of the Paramedics asked the Woman if I always moaned or made odd sounds. I managed to yell, No! I’m in pain, damnit! He felt stupid for asking.

As they carried me out on the Stretcher, I asked someone if I was going to be on the TV news. Even as a kid, I was a Media Whore.

So I arrived “home” in an Ambulance, and got wheeled into the ER. The funniest thing about all of this was that the Nurses had no idea who I was. Even though, I had been living there for at least ten or eleven years at this point. They kept asking me where I lived & I kept saying, upstairs, I live upstairs!. I think they believed that I hit my head just a little too hard.

Eventually, they called upstairs and the Nurse vouched for me. I broke both of my legs, and my nose. The Bus Company paid me $3000 and I had a wonderful trip to Toronto.

Late Friday night, I started getting Chest Pain. At first, they weren’t bad, so I figured that I’d try to sleep it off. As the night went on, the pain got worse and I didn’t sleep at all. By the time Saturday rolled around, I was in extreme pain. It honestly felt like I was being stabbed everytime I breathed.

My Wife & I got to the ER around Noon and waited about 45 minutes for them to admit me. I laid down on the ER bed for at least 30 minutes before anyone really saw me.

They tried 3 times in a row to get blood from me, but no luck, so they stopped for awhile. A little while later, they sent me for X-Rays, which was really painful because they had to sit me up, and put a metal board behind my back.

At this point, things got worse. For those unaware, I use a Ventilator 24/7 to breahe. One sits on the back of my chair as I go about my life. Normally, it runs on an External Battery, which can last 9-10 hours on a good day. I’m also able to plug it into the wall at any point to save Battery Power. When you plug it in, the light goes to “AC Power” to tell you that it’s plugged in the wall and everything’s working properly. It wasn’t switching over. At one point, it started going haywire when I was on my way to get my Chest X-Ray. Luckily, it started working a few minutes later.

So, we kinda had another problem on our hands. I needed to get another Ventilator asap. In between the other tests/procedures that I got, they hooked me up to another Ventilator.

Speaking of tests/procedures, I got Blood taken afterall, an IV, & , an ECG (Electro Cardio Gram), and a CT Scan. A CT Scan is when you go through this machine, while it spins arounds you, and it takes X-Ray images of you.

So after all that, they discovered a Blood Clot on the left side of my Chest. Luckily, they gave Pain Meds, so I could feel comfortable.

So because of the Blood Clot, I now require a daily shot of a Blood Thinner for the next few days. I have a Nurse coming later tonight to give me my 2nd shot. Let me tell you something, I have 5 tattoos, and have been injured many times, but this needle is freakin painful.

As for the Ventilator, a Nurse had to come on my ride home cause they gave me a loaner, so I could get home.

Right now, I’m using the one that I usually use when I’m sleeping. Obviously, tomorrow I’ll have to make some calls, so I can get another one.

As for me, the pain keeps coming and going, but it’s not as bad as yesterday. I’m hoping that things will start getting better now.

They also gave me the same Antibiotics for another 10 days, but nobody seems to know if I should take them while I’m getting my shot.

Sorry for the long post, but that’s the way it happened.

Thanks for reading.

Last night was quiet & relaxing. I spent the night watching shows that I’ve taped over the past few weeks. Those shows included Corner Gas, Two And A Half Men, Big Bang Theory, House, ER, CSI, My Name Is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock.

As you can see, I was pretty entertained while The Oscars were on. I was glad to hear that Heath Ledger won, but not totally shocked. After all, his Family was there from Australia. It would’ve been awkward if they gave the Award to someone else. If I was watching it, I might’ve laughed. Just because I’m evil and I like when unexpected things happen on live TV.

Besides that, not much is new. I’m giving myself one more week before I start going out and doing stuff again.

Yes, I’m still continuing to feel better, but I want to be sure that I’m fully recovered before I start living my life again.

Well, thanks for reading.

I had a pretty rough week since my last post.

My Flu turned into Pneumonia, which is tons of fun.

On Tuesday, I checked into the ER just before 7 PM and was there until 2:30 in the Morning. They ran a few tests, took bloodwork, started an IV, and gave me a Chest X-Ray. In the end, they sent me home with Drugs & a Puffer.  I seem to be getting my energy back and having less problems breathing.

I’ve been getting sick for the last few years, right around this time of year. I thought I had managed to hide from it this year, but no, I got it and it hit me hard.

The good news is that I’m slowly getting better and I truly think the worse is over. I really hope that nothing else happens to me for awhile now. I really don’t think my patience (or lack of) could handle it.

Barack Obama visited Ottawa last Thursday. I probably would’ve headed out to see him, but I was pretty sick still. Even though, the visit only lasted a few hours, the impact is still being felt here in Ottawa. During his visit, he met with Stephen Harper, Michelle Jean, & Michael Ignatieff.

So tonight’s The Oscars. I’m not really a big fan of them, but I’m hoping that Heath Ledger and Mickey Rourke both win. I haven’t seen The Wrestler due to poor times at the theatres here. I’d kinda like to see Slumdog Millionaire too, but haven’t really had the chance to yet. As for The Dark Knight, that was a GREAT movie and I think Heath was great as the Joker.

Well that’s it for now, but I should be around more often now.
